Meet Ashley Scott of CurlyInCollege

Ashley G. Scott is the Founder & CEO of CurlyInCollege LLC. CurlyInCollege started in 2014 as an online destination for students seeking the latest news on natural hair care and related lifestyle trends. In 2015 the brand expanded, becoming the first national network of student organizations to celebrate and support those who are bold enough to navigate a life with curls on campus. Scott is also a former TEDx presenter, Top 10 Under 40 winner, YWCA Woman of Distinction, and a Purdue Outstanding Young Alumni Award Recipient.

Let’s Take 5 with Ashley

What is one piece of advice you’d give to your first-year-in-business self?

Work super fast and don’t sweat the small stuff!

What is your favorite app or tool?

I use Slack to communicate with my team and I love it.

What is one mistake you’ve made that you’ve learned from?

Initially, I put too much responsibility on my students, only to find that they required way more leadership development than I could have ever anticipated. As a result, I’ve learned that making mistakes is part of the process, and it doesn’t mean you’re a bad business woman, it just means you’re learning how to be a better one.

If they made a movie of your life, who would you want to play you?

Gabrielle Union

What’s one thing you wish more women entrepreneurs knew?

Once you’re in alignment with the purpose God has for your life, all things will work together for your good! You can’t lose.
