Let’s Take 5 with Heather

What is one piece of advice you’d give to your first-year-in-business self?

Be a sponge and soak up everything you can, and get a really good coach to help you as you navigate the journey.

What is your favorite app or tool?

My smart phone. I would be lost without it! I am also a big fan of the Google apps as they help me run my business.

What is one mistake you’ve made that you’ve learned from?

I’ve spent so much money on tools and systems that I wasn’t ready for at the time. Now before I open my checkbook, I evaluate where I am in my business, where I hope to be, and how this tool will be used. If I can’t work it into my normal workflow or it isn’t going to help me grow my business, I put on the brakes.

I think it would be better to be in a place where I have to have something rather than just wanting to try it out. You need to have some cashflow in order to make your business work. Be wise about spending on tools and systems.

If they made a movie of your life, who would you want to play you?

Julia Roberts. She can be really serious, a little bad-assy and hilarious. Plus, I just like her.

What’s one thing you wish more women entrepreneurs knew?

You don’t have to be so isolated. Being a woman entrepreneur can leave you feeling really lonely at times. Having a good support system of other entrepreneurs is the key. It’s hard raising a family, having a spouse, and working and/or running a business.

Your support system can help you make it through the days you want to cry or feel hopeless, and can also be there to celebrate with you on the days you are on fire! 🙂
