Let’s Take 5 with Carrie
What is one piece of advice you’d give to your first-year-in-business self?
Have more confidence in your abilities and describe yourself accordingly.
During my early networking meetings, I regret not giving myself more credit by explaining how my past work experience has prepared me for this new role; I focused too much on how ‘new’ I was.
What is your favorite app or tool?
My ScanSnap IX500. It allows me to reduce the amount of paper I would otherwise need to lug around with me between client locations and my home office.
What is one mistake you’ve made that you’ve learned from?
Not learning the importance of follow-up gratitude early enough. Every encounter deserves a follow-up that includes a sincere kind, word. If someone gave you their time, thank them for it.
If they made a movie of your life, who would you want to play you?
Zooey Deschanel; she seems to be a simpatico goofball.
What’s one thing you wish more women entrepreneurs knew?
It doesn’t have to be all or nothing. It’s a daily challenge and some days will not be balanced, but don’t give up the family for the business or vice-versa. It’s okay to start slowly: have patience and fine tune along the way.
