Meet Dana Harrison of Synergy Consulting Services

Dana Harrison worked in education, manufacturing, financial services and the arts before leading Dress for Success Indianapolis through a stunning five-fold growth. Now she pulls together her passion for organizational optimization into her work as a management consultant with her company, Synergy Consulting Services!

Let’s Take 5 with Dana!

What is one piece of advice you’d give to your first-year-in-business self?

Don’t just market and sell for the short-term, but work on establishing systems for this work that can perpetuate once you’re busy delivering services.

What is your favorite app or tool?

My Surface Pro tablet. I live in OneNote, which is like an electronic notebook, and normally write in it (and sketch concepts, too). I no longer have paper files. I never have to lose time due to missing materials because I always have everything at my fingertips.

What is one mistake you’ve made that you’ve learned from?

One’s people skills and relationship-building success are as important (if not more important) than one’s analytical, problem-solving, and planning abilities.

If they made a movie of your life, who would you want to play you?

Susan Sarandon.

What’s one thing you wish more women entrepreneurs knew?

For both men and women entrepreneurs, I think it’s important to stay closely in touch with what you want to accomplish and to acknowledge that bigger isn’t necessarily better. I often see “successful” entrepreneurs who are miserable because they lost sight of their definition of success and pursued what others define as success.
